Rangers produced a marvellous display to see off the challenge of Hibernian on Sunday afternoon at Ibrox with a 6-1 win – and Jordan Jones has received praise from ex-teammate Kris Boyd and £20million (Sun) ace Oli McBurnie.

Jones, 24, started the match for Rangers as they looked to make it two league wins from two games. They did just that, with Northern Ireland international Jones heavily involved throughout.

Signed from Killie in the summer, Jones has impressed in his opening outings for Rangers without having any kind of end product. But he was crucial in the opener, as he nutmegged an opponent before Jermain Defoe scored.

Jones posted on Instagram after making his fifth appearances for boyhood club Rangers, to which former Killie teammate Kris Boyd replied saying Jones is “on fire”. McBurnie told Jones he has ordered a shirt with his name.

Defoe notched a hat-trick for the Gers, while Sheyi Ojo also got on the score sheet. Alfredo Morelos took his tally to seven for the season already, netting a brace after coming on against 10-man Hibs.

Jones has certainly hit the ground running since his move to Ibrox, but with Steven Gerrard’s rotation policy already in full force as Rangers prepare for their eighth game of the season on Thursday, Jones may be benched.

The Gers will be looking to hold onto their 4-2 aggregate lead over FC Midtjylland at Ibrox on Thursday, after an excellent performance in Denmark saw them take a huge leap towards the Europa League group stages.
