Oleksandr Zinchenko says Arsenal have a 'true warrior' in their ranks

Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko has backed Gabriel Jesus to bounce back in style once he recovers from his injury.

The 25-year-old has been sensational for the Gunners since joining from Manchester City in the summer.

Mikel Arteta had been crying out for a new No. 9 to lead the Gunners line, and Jesus was the perfect choice.

The Brazilian hit the ground running in terms of goals for Arsenal.

And even when those dried up, Jesus continued to provide assists and improved the quality of the team.

Sadly, the Brazil international is now on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for a knee injury.

report from Goal.com revealed that he suffered a meniscus and a partial collateral ligament injury in his right knee.

This is expected to keep him out of action for as long as three months.

Jesus’ injury leaves Arsenal short up front again, with Eddie Nketiah the only fit senior striker at Arteta’s disposal.

Zinchenko, speaking to the official Gunners website, spoke highly about both forwards.

“He’s one of the leaders in our team,” he said about Jesus. “He’s a true warrior.

“I have no doubts he’ll be back much stronger than before, knowing him personally and knowing his character.

“As a team, we need to stick together.”

Zinchenko is confident that Eddie Nketiah can step up in the Brazilian’s absence with everyone he has around him in the group.

“I have no doubts that Nketiah is going to do his job amazingly and everyone trusts him,” he continued.

“We have such a great group of people. We have this feeling of togetherness.”

New arrivals in January?

Jesus’ injury means the spotlight will now be on Nketiah to provide the crucial goals from centre-forward.

He took his chance well enough at the tail end of last season, very nearly getting the Gunners into the Champions League.

However, there’s also a chance Arteta could delve into the market to bring in a replacement.

Arsenal cannot have what happened in the second half of 2021-22 happening again.

Hopefully Arsenal will alleviate fans’ fears quickly, be it through Nketiah making an instant goalscoring impact or a high-profile new signing early on in the window.
