Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sounds like he wants a John McGinn type this summer

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been discussing what his side need. One area he clearly wants to improve regards leadership at the club and seemingly in the midfield.

The Norwegian was speaking in the presence of United legend Bryan Robson in Australia, where United are currently on tour.

He made reference to Robson, as reported by The Telegraph, as he discussed what was missing at Old Trafford.

“We are on the way to building a new squad. We’ve got new staff in, coaching staff. I believe so much in this club and this project. To be manager of this club is fantastic. I’m standing next to the history of this club [Robson].

“I never had the honour of playing with Robbo but we need a player like him in the team. We’re waiting for the young ones to come through because we’ve got so many exciting players and I’m sure we’ll see the best of them in the years to come.”

It is hard to see which players currently at United could fit that bill. Paul Pogba, clearly, is not the answer.

But what about potential transfer targets. One man Solskjaer is said to be a big fan of is Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.

As reported by The Sun last month, Aston Villa’s midfield maestro is a target for the Red Devils this summer.

Aston Villa are not interested in a sale. That has been made clear by a whopping £50 million contract placed on McGinn’s head.

But Aston Villa fans will no doubt attest to the fact that McGinn shares similar traits to Robson and is exactly the sort of player Solskjaer was referring to.

Hopefully, it does not mean United come in strong regarding their reported transfer interest in the Aston Villa fan favourite.
