O'Hara says Yves Bissouma is not the same player since Tottenham move

Jamie O’Hara has told talkSPORT that Yves Bissouma is not the same player for Tottenham as he was for Brighton, and insisted that the midfielder can have few complaints that he is not starting more.

Spurs are out of the Carabao Cup after a miserable night away at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday. Two second-half goals saw Antonio Conte’s men beaten at the City Ground.

It was a miserable night for some of Tottenham’s fringe players. They arguably had more than enough quality to win against their Premier League rivals. However, several players failed to turn up.

Yves Bissouma is not the same player

And one of those who failed to take his opportunity was Bissouma. The 26-year-old was unable to make much of an impact on the game.

Bissouma has had to bide his time so far this season. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have been two of Tottenham’s best players. But he has still had opportunities along the way.

The 26-year-old was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League while at Brighton. Unfortunately, Spurs fans are yet to see that player since his move.

Certainly, O’Hara does not believe that he has proved to be a good signing so far.

“Bissouma, for me, the player that we signed from Brighton ain’t the player that’s turned up at Tottenham, that’s for sure,” he told talkSPORT.

“As a football player, you know you might not start every week. When you get an opportunity, you’ve got to take it, you’ve got to have confidence in yourself. And you go: ‘right, now’s my chance. Carabao Cup, I’m going to get an opportunity. I’m going to show the gaffer what I’m about tonight’. And you come out and you put in a performance like that tonight, what do you expect? You’re going to be sat on the bench.”

It is worrying that Conte does not appear to be getting the best out of a number of players right now. The Italian is a world-class coach with an amazing track record.

And Spurs are – on paper – doing well in the Premier League. They remain in the top-four despite losing three of their last four.

Fans may have expected Bissouma to be a first-choice by this stage of the campaign. But he has been unable to put genuine pressure on Bentancur and Hojbjerg.

Perhaps it would be unfair to be too critical given that he just cannot enjoy a run in the side. But there is little doubt that Tottenham supporters are probably a lot less excited about the £25 million Bissouma deal just a few months on.
