O'Hara says Ryan Sessegnon is too inconsistent after Spurs loss

Jamie O’Hara has told talkSPORT that he is not sure if Antonio Conte can trust Ryan Sessegnon, suggesting that he has been too inconsistent for Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs fans are continuing their inquest into what is going wrong with their team right now. They have lost four of their last seven in all competitions. And remarkably, they have gone behind in every single one of those seven games.

Conte made a number of changes for their trip to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. But one of those to keep his place at the City Ground was Sessegnon.

Ryan Sessegnon too inconsistent

Unfortunately, it proved to be a miserable night for the wide-man. He also ended the game with an injury. And O’Hara suggested that he has not shown enough to win Conte over during the season.

“We paid £30 million for Ryan Sessegnon. And for me, he’s done okay in certain games this season,” he told talkSPORT. “But he’s too inconsistent. There’s too many players who are inconsistent. And I don’t know if Conte can trust them. I think that’s the problem he’s got. That’s why maybe he doesn’t want to play this attacking style.”

In fairness to Sessegnon, he is still a work in progress. It is easy to forget that he is still only 22 years of age. And he has taken some time to really force his way into the first-team fold in North London.

He has definitely had some bright moments in this campaign. And you would imagine that he will really benefit the longer he works with Ivan Perisic.

Sessegnon is, in no way, the only Tottenham player struggling for form right now. In fact, if they were getting the same results under a different coach, that coach would be coming under so much pressure.

Obviously, Conte is a world-class coach with a proven track record. And Spurs have reason to believe that he can turn their fortunes around in the near future.

But their form is extremely concerning. And it is proving difficult for any player – including Sessegnon – to really shine and help drag Spurs out of their current rut.
