Jamie O’Hara took to Twitter during Tottenham Hotspur’s loss to Aston Villa to suggest that Cristian Romero probably wanted to be sent off so he could return to celebrating Argentina’s World Cup win.
Spurs fans must be wondering what exactly is going on with their side right now. The appointment of Antonio Conte looked set to have the potential to be a game-changer for the club. And his first few months at the helm hinted that he had the side on the right path.

That may still be the case. They are only just outside the top-four and are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League. However, their form in the last few months has been extremely worrying.
O’Hara thinks Romero wanted to be sent off in Tottenham defeat
They have now conceded the opening goal in their last 10 games in all competitions. And they have failed to win their first two games after the break, with Villa winning 2-0 on Sunday.

The game saw the likes of Hugo Lloris and Romero return to the starting lineup. However, they were unable to stop Tottenham losing. In fact, Lloris played a key role in Villa’s opening goal.
Romero was booked in the first-half for a rash challenge – though he did appear to win the ball. And it seems that he let his frustrations get the better of him after the break.
He was involved in a nasty clash with Philippe Coutinho, where he barged the Brazilian off the pitch as the ball went out for a throw. Somehow the referee – who was poor throughout – decided against showing the centre-back a second yellow.
But O’Hara has suggested that Romero was probably disappointed not to be dismissed given everything going on…
Romero’s feisty nature is exactly what makes him one of the best defenders in the Premier League. In many ways, the challenge which saw him booked sums him up. He did potentially win the ball. However, he did so in a way which left the official with little choice.
On another day, he could have easily been sent off for the barge on Coutinho.
And that would have left Tottenham in even more bother.
