‘Oh my days’: Some Liverpool fans hail £29m star who’s ‘so underrated’ after display for his country
Roberto Firmino was in action for Brazil in the early hours of Thursday morning – and some Liverpool fans on Twitter hailed their star for his individual performance.
Brazil made it three wins out of three at the Copa America tournament by beating Colombia 2-1 in their Group B fixture.
Luis Diaz put Colombia in front after a volley in the 10th minute. However, South American giants Brazil were much better in the second half.
Firmino, who was a half-time substitute, equalised in the 78th minute with a powerful header. Finally, Casemiro wrapped up the scoring by netting a winner in the 10th minute of additional time at the end of the game.
The 29-year-old came under scrutiny at times during the 2020/21 season at Anfield. But, he ended up with nine goals and nine assists for Liverpool during the last campaign.
He’s a technical centre-forward who’s game is more than just goals. Therefore, it’s difficult to measure his work-rate and link up play.
Liverpool’s side in general perhaps dropped off 10 per cent from the ridiculously high standards set in the previous couple of years, something that always seemed bound to happen.
They still finished in the top four of the league though despite this.
Firmino can still be a vital player for Liverpool
A selection of Reds supporters applauded £29million star Firmino for his Brazil second-half display.
He’s someone that remains a fan favourite because of the flair and energy he has on the pitch.
The burden did fall on Mohamed Salah at times last year, but the Merseyside giants do have serious firepower in attack to try use.
Firmino, Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota is deadly on paper going into next season.
If Firmino is back to his very best, it changes the dynamic for the Reds. It would be foolish to write off his Anfield career.
