Paul Merson has had his say on Newcastle United’s upcoming Premier League fixtures against Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
The Magpies picked up their first win of the season against Burnley and just when things started to look up, they were battered 4-0 by Leicester City. It’s back to square one for Eddie Howe, but the difficulty level of the job in hand will only get tougher in the coming days.
Newcastle travel to Liverpool tomorrow before back-to-back home games against the two Manchester clubs. That’s as difficult a run as they could imagine, and it’s no surprise that the confidence around the club ahead of the three fixtures isn’t very high.
Merson wrote about Newcastle’s difficult run and he has predicted how many points Howe’s men will pick up against Liverpool and the two Manchester sides.
Paul Merson on Newcastle United’s next three games: They aren’t going to get a single point
Merson wrote in his predictions piece on Sportskeeda: “Newcastle United need to get this game (against Liverpool) out of the way.
“They got absolutely slaughtered by Leicester City the other day and obviously wouldn’t want something like that to happen against Liverpool. This is a horrible game for them and I can’t see anything other than a Liverpool win, so I think the home side will prevail 4-0.
“After Liverpool, Newcastle play the two Manchester clubs back-to-back in the Premier League, oh gosh that is a horrible run of fixtures for Eddie Howe and co. They are in major trouble and just need to make sure they hang in there and not get their confidence shot.
“Judging based on their fixtures, they aren’t going to get a single Premier League point from their next three games, so they’ll need the teams around them to go on bad runs and do them a favour.”

TBR View:
It really is a hard few days for Newcastle United. They are in a relegation battle and the last thing they need is three consecutive games against the toughest sides in the country.
If Newcastle play as badly as they did against Leicester, all three teams will rip them to shreds. However, football is a funny game and we’ve seen over the years that every team in the Premier League is beatable.
Howe has to set his side out to play without any fear. Everybody expects them to lose the next three games anyway, so the pressure is off. That could work wonders for them, but it’s still extremely unlikely that they’ll take anything away from any of their next three fixtures.
