Celtic have missed out on signing Thomas Robert with the 21-year-old officially joining second-tier Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron.
The Proximus League side confirmed the transfer on their official website after weeks of uncertainty over the future of the youngster. Robert had been on trial with Celtic this summer as well as Premier League side Burnley.
However, the former Airdrie winger has opted to join Mouscron in Belgium. As per the club’s statement, Robert has signed a two-year deal with an option of a further year. Les Hurlus currently sit bottom of the division, with the club yet to win a game this season.

Indeed, the official signing will be a blow for Celtic, with Robert a highly-rated youngster after coming through the Montpellier youth system. However, the attacker has seemingly decided to return to a familiar surrounding in the form of Mouscron.
Robert spent just one year with Airdrie where the attacker played 26 times for the League One Scottish club. The Paris-born forward scored three goals and assisted four in total as the third-tier side lost out on the Championship play-offs to Morton.

With Robert now a Mouscron player, Celtic can now begin to move on from the former Montpellier prospect.
Ange Postecoglou has done well so far in the market since arriving in Glasgow. And the Australian manager will likely be keen to make more additions when January rolls around.
