Newcastle United have been handed the chance to sign striker Mauro Icardi from French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that the Magpies are among the clubs who have been offered the hitman.
Newcastle have been looking for a new striker throughout the transfer window and have not been able to get one over the line yet.

Newcastle offered chance to sign Icardi
Romano said: “I’ve written about Mauro Icardi being offered to Manchester United, and also Arsenal earlier in the summer, though they preferred to sign Gabriel Jesus.
“I can now reveal that the Argentine also been offered to Newcastle.
“Icardi’s situation is really difficult. PSG want to find a solution soon, but the player does not intend to accept unwanted destinations.
“He has been offered to Manchester United and Newcastle who have not made any kind of proposal for Icardi so far.
“There are also Galatasaray emissaries who contacted Icardi’s camp this week.”
Icardi has won two Ligue 1 titles at PSG, and has been described as world class by Giorgio Chiellini in his autobiography in 2020.
He wrote: “Among the great attackers I have faced, I highly value Icardi, who inside the area is almost impossible to mark.
“Mauro against Juve has often scored, it hurt me. He’s a world-class centre-forward, even if he lacks something in the collective game. He’s a Trezeguet but with different characteristics, lethal in the aerial game.”
But he seems to be the kind of expensive purchase, without experience of English football that Newcastle have so far largely avoided under Eddie Howe, and it would be a surprise if Newcastle took up the chance they’ve been offered.
