Speculation regarding Steven Gerrard and a return to Liverpool is unlikely to disappear any time soon.
From the moment he arrived at Ibrox in 2018, it’s been seen as inevitable that the Anfield legend would eventually take the top job at his former club.
A frustrating campaign for Liverpool has contrasted with a joyous one for Rangers. While Jurgen Klopp’s men surrendered their Premier League title without a fight, Gerrard’s side ended a decade of Celtic dominance by winning the Scottish Premiership.
While there is no indication that Klopp’s reign will be over in the near future, Gerrard and Liverpool is a topic that simply will not go away.
The latest to make the connection is Gregory Vignal, who played for both clubs and was a team-mate of the Englishman during his time at Anfield.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the Frenchman suggested a move was destined to happen.
He said: “Of course Stevie will be Liverpool manager one day. If he is good enough now, I don’t know.
“If you ask me if he is ready now, I say maybe not. But I think he will know when he is ready.
“Of course one day he will be Liverpool Football Club manager. If one day he asked me the question to come and work for him at Liverpool Football Club, my answer would be, ‘Yes of course.’ That would be amazing.
“If one day he picks up the phone and rings me and says, ‘Greg, are you ready?’ I will say, ‘Of course.’ I will say yes.
“But you never know in football. Nothing is impossible.”
