Odsonne Edouard still has plenty to prove at Celtic
Manager Brendan Rodgers has the luxury of goals from all over the park for Celtic, but there is no doubt he needs his centre-forward Odsonne Edouard firing on all cylinders in the crunch fixtures.
The Bhoys did slip to a 2-1 home defeat against Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday night, but fortunately for them results elsewhere meant they booked their spot in the knockout rounds of the Europa League.
It is a great achievement for the Scottish champions to qualify from a tough group, but it should only get more difficult in the European competition in the New Year.
Celtic were outclassed in the lost to Salzburg and it was a complete no-show from Edouard.
The 20-year-old striker tried to battle by himself at the point of attack, but was snuffed out frequently by defenders and was unable to leave his impact on his match.
Edouard is still an upcoming French attacker learning his game, but there is pressure on him as the first-choice striker to deliver and he also cost £9million (Sky Sports) to sign permanently in the summer.
He is a powerful forward with 13 goals in 28 games across all competitions, but just wasn’t quite at the races on a colossal European showdown.
Edouard has to start stepping it up in the big games to justify his price tag and Celtic are going to need him firing if they stand a chance of going deeper into the Europa League.
