Odegaard professes love for Arsenal but leaves future in the hands of Real Madrid
Martin Odegaard has spoken optimistically over his future at Arsenal, claiming that he’s loving life in north London since his move from Real Madrid.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Germany, the Norwegian midfielder did admit that whilst he is happy, his future lies in the hands of the Spanish giants.
Odegaard has enjoyed a fairly mixed spell at the Emirates Stadium, scoring in back-to-back games against Olympiacos and Tottenham Hotspur whilst also getting knocked out of the Europa League by Villarreal at the semi-final stage.
Reports throughout the campaign have moved back and forth regarding his future at the club, but, the latest claims are that he’ll be made available for transfer in the summer.
When talking about his time at Arsenal and his future beyond this term, the ‘influential’ Odegaard said: “I am happy here at Arsenal, we will see after the season what will happen. I’m owned by Real Madrid, so we have to speak to them. It’s important to understand what they want.”
TBR View: Arsenal shouldn’t sign the Norway international
Among one of the Gunners’ biggest problems over the last few years hasn’t just been on the pitch, but, off the field in the transfer market.
Shocking acquisitions has seen the club waste millions on a range of stars when money could’ve been better spent in crucial areas of the field.
Willian was signed on a free transfer, however, his signing on fee and incredible wages means the side is spending a fortune on a player with the same number of league goals this term as Allison at Liverpool. Then there are the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Lucas Torreira, and William Saliba, all of whom have proven to be flops so far.
The Ivorian’s inconsistencies mean he’s nowhere near proving to be a £72m player, whilst the 20-year-old Frenchman was sent straight out on loan upon his return to the club and Torreira is looking to leave after not meeting Arteta’s requirements for defensive midfield.
Reports have claimed that Real Madrid will be looking for upwards of £40m to sell the 22-year-old playmaker this summer, and with the emergence of Emile Smith Rowe, you feel like that money could be better spent elsewhere.
Odegaard has been hit and miss during his loan spell with the club, and spending hefty amounts of money on acquiring him would be a criminal decision from the outfit.
