Nuno’s £3m Jonny Otto gamble seems to be paying off

Plenty of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were left aghast this summer when the club allowed Barry Douglas to join Leeds United in a £3 million deal. The Scottish international had been one of the stars of the Championship last season with an incredible assist record of 15.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo clearly felt the Championship was his level. Wolves completed a permanent deal for his back-up last season Ruben Vinagre and also signed another left-back on loan.

Wolves agreed a deal for Jonny Castro Otto. The Spaniard had just joined Atletico Madrid from Celta Vigo but was immediately loaned out to Wolves for regular first-team football.

It was certainly a gamble from Nuno, but it does not appear to have been a mistake.

Otto has really impressed the Wolves fans so far this season. The 24-year-old has been excellent in the left-back role. A recent display against Leicester City earned him man-of-the-match and he was brilliant in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Douglas is having a great season so far at Leeds. However, Wolves are certainly not overly concerned by the Scot’s absence. In Otto, they have acquired an excellent replacement and fears that they had made a big mistake look to have been misplaced.
