Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares has sent a Twitter message to the Gunners fanbase following his poor display on Monday.

The 22-year-old started for Arsenal against Crystal Palace on Monday night, but struggled as the hosts ran out 3-0 winners.

Mikel Arteta ended up taking Tavares off at half time, with Granit Xhaka going on to fill at left-back.

It was the £7million man’s first start since Nottingham Forest in January, when Arteta hauled him off after 35 minutes.

On Thursday, Tavares took to social media admitting it was an “extremely frustrating night” for him, the team and the fans.

Tavares is likely to keep playing a big role for Arsenal in wake of Kieran Tierney’s injury and surgery.

The Gunners first-choice left-back has damaged his left knee and will go under the knife to rectify the problem.

“Kieran’s rehabilitation programme will start immediately after his surgery,” Arsenal said on their website.

“At which stage a clearer understanding will be established on his recovery timescale.

“However, it is likely that Kieran will now miss the remainder of this season.”

Football.london has also claimed that academy left-back Lino Sousa is reportedly continuing to catch Arteta’s eye.

Arsenal’s coaches have apparently earmarked the 17-year-old as a potential star of the future at the Emirates.

The Mirror covered football.london’s article and also speculated Arteta could turn to Sousa at left-back.
