Nuno reacts to Emerson Royal display in Tottenham win

Nuno Espirito Santo has issued an interesting reaction to the display of Emerson Royal after Tottenham Hotspur beat Aston Villa on Sunday – in comments reported by Football London.

Spurs beat the Villans 2-1 to lift some of the gloom around North London heading into the international break.

Royal came back into the starting lineup after being left on the bench for the derby last weekend.

And the 22-year-old went on to show why Tottenham brought him in in January. He was excellent in the victory.

Plenty of Spurs fans were full of praise for his performance. Meanwhile, club legend Graham Roberts labelled his display amazing.

However, Nuno insisted that he wants to see more from the summer signing following the win.

“I think we have to be very patient with all the players. I honestly think he has to improve. He had a good game. He was stable, especially in the way that he controlled the width,” he said, as reported by Football London.

“He was really good going forward. I think he had moments when he should have decided better when he was in the box, but not only Emerson, I think all the team, it was important for us.”

Exciting for Tottenham if there is more to come from Emerson Royal

Nuno may have had mixed feelings about Royal’s performance, but it did seem that the former Barcelona man provided the biggest indication yet that he is going to prove to be a very good signing.

He won two tackles, made six clearances and four interceptions (Whoscored). He also won four aerial duels.

It is exciting for Tottenham if there is more to come from the youngster.

It has been a difficult start to life in the Premier League for Royal. Tottenham had not won a top-flight fixture following his move before the win over the Villans.

And he has taken a little while to wrestle the spot off Japhet Tanganga.

The pair will probably share the responsibilities over the coming months.

But Royal certainly appears to have staked the strongest claim for the number one spot in the pecking order – even if Nuno wanted to see more.
