Nuno Espirito Santo has told The Express & Star that Ryan Bennett and Ruben Neves will be assessed for injuries.
Wolverhampton Wanderers pair Bennett and Neves both left the field as Nuno’s men drew 1-1 with Southampton. Raul Jimenez scored a penalty to level after Danny Ings fired Southampton into the lead.
But there is potentially some damage done to Nuno’s squad. Bennett and Neves, who both regularly feature in Nuno’s preferred starting line-up, will now undergo injury assessments.
Bennett lasted just 18 minutes before he was replaced by Jesus Vallejo. The 29-year-old limped off and Nuno believed that affected the organisation at the back. Meanwhile, Neves took a hit to the head and was taken off at half-time with Matt Doherty coming on.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Nuno said (via The Express & Star): “Ryan, let’s see how he is. We hope that it’s not too serious. When he came out, the team lost a bit of organisation.
“There are things we have to improve, definitely have to improve. And let’s see how Ruben is. The medical department know what they’re doing.”
Losing these two players for extended periods would really hurt Wolves, especially with the added distraction of the Europa League. Luckily, it does not look like either will be too serious.
With Bennett missing, Vallejo has to play in the back three while Romain Saiss is out. Vallejo has struggled so far so Bennett is needed for now. Neves’ influence in midfield is no secret and he will be a big miss if he cannot play in any upcoming games.
