Nuno appointment could benefit Bellerin and Tierney at Arsenal

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is now the first-choice candidate for the Arsenal job, according to The Mail.

Arsenal are weighing up potential replacements for Unai Emery, who is on a long winless run. Arsenal sit eight points off the top four and it looks like another season of disappointment.

If Emery leaves, Nuno could come in to replace him. He has worked wonders at Molineux, achieving promotion in his first year and European qualification in his second season.

And his appointment could be the best thing for Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney. Here’s why.

Nuno’s system

At Wolves, Nuno operates with three central defenders and wing-backs. He has flitted between 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 during his time in the West Midlands. Currently, he prefers the latter.

The wing-backs essentially operate as right-wingers – just with added defensive responsibility. This is something that could work for both Bellerin and Tierney.

Hector Bellerin

Using his speed and skill, Bellerin could become a devastating wing-back. He is capable of bombing forward to join the attack and whipping in some dangerous crosses.

This would also help the two strikers in the box. Bellerin’s speed would allow him to retreat back into position to help out defensively as well.

Kieran Tierney

Tierney, like Bellerin, is the modern-day full-back. He is just as comfortable going forward as he is with his defensive duties.

At Celtic, Tierney was rarely needed in defence so he acted as a pseudo-winger. With more attacking responsibility in an advanced role, he could help take Arsenal to the next level.
