Tottenham Hotspur’s desire to win silverware is no secret to anyone in football right now.

The club haven’t added a trophy to their collection since the League Cup in 2008.

On the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Sam Allardyce has been talking about personal awards.

A number of Tottenham players have put in sensational individual performances over the past few years.

Son Heung-min won the Golden Boot last season after a fantastic end to the campaign.

One player who is no stranger to winning personal accolades is Harry Kane.

Kane has won the Premier League Golden Boot on three occasions, and won the playmaker award last year for most assists.

He’s also got a World Cup Golden Boot as part of his collection.

Allardyce now thinks Kane is the most likely England player to win the Ballon d’Or.

Kane could win the Ballon d’Or – Allardyce

The Tottenham forward has been nominated for one of football’s biggest awards on four occasions.

Kane finished 10th place in the Ballon d’Or voting in 2017 and 2018, but was further down the rankings in the past two years.

Kane has enjoyed a very strong start to the season in the Premier League.

His 12 goals in all competitions is very impressive, especially considering the attacking injuries Spurs have had in recent weeks.

However, he’s already falling way behind Erling Haaland in the goal scoring charts this season.

The £200k-a-week forward would likely trade all of his personal awards to win a major trophy with Tottenham.

TalkSPORT’s Simon Jordan criticised the decision to award Kane the freedom of the City of London because of his lack of silverware.

It’s a harsh criticism of Kane, but the England forward will want to win a major honour with Spurs during his time at the club.

Allardyce on Kane’s chances

Allardyce still thinks Kane is the English player with the best chance to win the Ballon d’Or.

“Harry Kane would be the number one choice. He’s the one who’s likely to score the goals,” Allardyce said.

“If England go a long way in the World Cup, and he’s up there with the leading scorers, he’s got to be your number one contender.

However, Allarydce was then asked if he thinks Tottenham’s lack of trophies will affect Kane’s chances.

“Yeah, invariably I think. It’s well documented that that’s why he wanted to get away I think,” Allardyce added.

“It was nothing to do with the Ballon d’Or, Kane wanted to go away and win some medals.

“It looks like he’s come to terms with that now, and he’s going to stay a bit like Alan Shearer, although Alan did win the Premier League with Blackburn.

“He was happy enough being a Newcastle lad to stay with them, and be a legend.”
