Some Arsenal fans have been reacting on social media to reports by La Razon of what Real Betis would accept to sell Guido Rodriguez this summer.

The Gunners are targeting a move for Rodriguez after scouting the Argentine for a number of months. Mikel Arteta’s side see the Betis star as a competitor for Thomas Partey, after being left underwhelmed by the Ghanaian.

Arsenal do not feel Partey has yet lived up to their expectations after paying Atletico Madrid £45million (BBC) in October. But the 27-year-old suffered an injury-ravished start in north London that held him to opening just 24 of his 33 appearances.

Betis risk losing Rodriguez in the summer transfer market as they look to manage the financial fallout of the pandemic. He is wanted by two clubs, as well as Arsenal, per Estadio Deportivo, who have sounded out the 27-year-old’s interest.

Los Verdiblancos can point any interested party to Rodriguez’s €80m (£68.5m) release clause. But La Razon claim the Benito Villamarin Stadium outfit are open to bids of €30m (£26m) for the 10-cap international.

Rodriguez started 34 of his 35 La Liga outings last term under Manuel Pellegrini as the Andalusian side finished sixth. It was enough to secure Betis qualification for the Europa League, but only the play-offs after missing an automatic spot by a point.

However, some Arsenal fans reacting on social media hope Rodriguez is prepared to walk away from European action to join Arteta’s squad in the summer transfer window. That’s because they believe the holding midfielder would be a great signing.

A few have also shared their belief that Betis’ asking price of £26m would be an amazing price. But not all Gunners supporters share that stance, with some hoping Arteta has alternatives in mind.

Brighton star Yves Bissouma, who Arsenal want (90min), being one that some fans would prefer Arteta signs than Rodriguez.
