'Now another source told me': Sky Sports reporter shares new Bruno Guimaraes update on-air

Newcastle United are seemingly closing in on Bruno Guimaraes.

On Tuesday, Sky Sports claimed the Magpies had agreed a fee with Lyon in the region of £30m to sign him.

Lyon subsequently released a statement denying an agreement has been reached.

However, it looks as though Newcastle and Lyon remain in talks over Guimaraes.

Chronicle Live has claimed the two clubs have settled the outline terms of a preliminary agreement.

Newcastle are apparently hoping that they can land Guimaraes before the weekend.

Now, Sky Sports reported Dharmesh Sheth has provided an update on the current state of play.

“Newcastle are still willing to make that deal happen”

He claims Newcastle are still pushing for a bid to be done.

Lyon reportedly rejected that first bid and wanted another €10m (£8.3m) in bonuses.

Newcastle are apparently still willing to make the deal happen.

In addition, Lyon are reportedly trying to source a replacement, with Brest’s Romain Faivre on their radar.

“Newcastle are still pushing for a deal for Bruno Guimaraes to be done,” said Sheth (27/1/22, 17:33).

“Lyon came out on Wednesday saying there is no deal or agreement between us and Newcastle over the transfer of Bruno Guimaraes.

“Soon after that, I got a call saying an official bid has now gone in.

“Now, that same source then told me that Lyon had actually rejected that first bid and wanted another €10m in bonuses.

“I’m told talks are continuing with a suggestion Newcastle are still willing to make that deal happen, so are they going to go towards what Lyon want for the player?

“Now another source told me that what is delaying the deal is Lyon need to find a replacement. And reports in France today say Lyon are now in talks with Brest over the signing of Romain Faivre.

“That would not be a direct replacement for the player, but it would be using some of the money they would be getting for Bruno Guimaraes and then they would use the rest of it to bring in a direct replacement.”
