Nottingham Forest’s under-23s picked up a win this week, defeating Barnsley 3-0 in their clash. It was a good day at the office for American winger Gboly Ariyibi. He scored the opening goal in the game and looked a major threat in his first start for a month.
The 23-year-old has certainly become something of a forgotten man at the City Ground.
Signed by Gary Brazil in January 2017 the academy manager clearly had eyes on him being a part of the club’s future. But Ariyibi has done little to warrant the reported £500,000 fee for his signature.
Last season he spent time out on loan with both MK Dons and Northampton Town with varying degrees of success. This summer, he was told he could leave the club.
Former club Chesterfield Town showed an interest but the American decided he no longer wanted to play out on loan and rejected the move – as reported by the Nottingham Post.

It seemed an odd move from the speedster, who looks to have no chance of first-team football this season under the guidance of Aitor Karanka.
However, he is already looking far more settled than he has in the past at the City Ground.
It could be he sees this season as the perfect chance to play himself into form with the under-23s, before considering a permanent departure or even knocking on the first-team door.
There is no doubt he has talent, but consistency has always been a problem for the Forest star.
Playing regularly for the youngsters could help him find the rhythm he needs to get his career back on track.
