Nottingham Forest fans are probably wondering why the club have not been playing Ryan Yates from the start of the campaign. The talented midfielder has had to bide his time for chances at the City Ground after signing a new contract in the summer and a successful loan spell at Scunthorpe United.
But since Martin O’Neill’s arrival, he has finally been given a chance. Yates has now started Forest’s last two games. He was awarded man-of-the-match in both fixtures and scored his first goal for the club against West Brom last night.

Looking at reports from December and January, it could have been a whole lot different. Yates was reportedly wanted by Portsmouth. As reported by the Daily Mirror, Pompey were hopeful of concluding a £500,000 deal for the player.
That never happened and any resistance from Forest toward that sale now looks entirely justified.
The midfielder looks like being an excellent talent and Nottingham Forest fans are probably rightly wondering why it has taken O’Neill’s arrival for him to finally get a chance.
Hopefully, he can continue this fine form. Nottingham Forest will now be glad all approaches from Portsmouth were knocked back.
