Nottingham Forest should make Sheffield Wednesday man their primary January target

It was an afternoon to forget for Nottingham Forest on Saturday as Norwich City came from a goal behind to win 2-1, ending the Reds’ unbeaten home run in the process.

Timm Klose’s second half brace cancelled out Lewis Grabban’s early strike and left boss Aitor Karanka with plenty to ponder ahead of two tough away games at Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United.

The manner of the defeat was perhaps the most alarming aspect for the Forest boss to contemplate, especially considering it is the second successive home game in which his side has thrown away points winning positions.

With the club now boasting a massive squad of players to choose from, it seems likely that Karanka will make changes for the upcoming away games. Indeed, with January on the horizon, he might considering the future of a few more players too.

One man who has looked out of sorts lately is goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, with the Romanian once again looking less than convincing against the Canaries.

Luke Steele is currently the understudy in the goalkeeping department  and it remains uncertain at this stage whether the Forest boss might dip his toe into the transfer market for another custodian when the window reopens.

One man who would represent a real statement of intent for any Championship outfit is Sheffield Wednesday stopper Keiren Westwood and he would represent a real coup for Forest.

The 33-year-old stopper has been one of the finest goalkeepers at Championship level for several years. It seems quite remarkable that he has fallen so far down the pecking order under Owls’ boss Jos Luhukay but Wednesday’s loss seems set to be someone else’s gain once January arrives.

At this stage it does remain to be seen whether or not the Reds will pursue another stopper but given Pantilimon’s recent form it does look increasingly likely.

Westwood would relish the first-team opportunity at the City Ground and his presence between the posts would massively enhance Forest’s promotion chances.
