Nottingham Forest stepped up their preparations for the 2018/19 campaign with a comfortable 1-0 win over League One outfit Scunthorpe United in what was the Reds’ penultimate friendly run out.
Aitor Karanka’s men secured the victory thanks to a goal from academy graduate Ryan Yates, who compounded the club he spent the second half of last season on loan at to defeat at Glanford Park.
The Spanish boss wasn’t satisfied with his charges’ performance in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Oldham Athletic but he will undoubtedly be pleased with the response he got from his side on Wednesday evening, with Forest restricting the Iron to very few clear-cut chances at goal.
One man in particular who caught the eye was 20-year-old Yates who turned in a superb first-half performance to leave some fans questioning whether he should be used as part of Karanka’s squad this season, rather than go out on loan, which has been touted as a possibility in recent weeks.
According to the Nottingham Post, the man who spent last season out on loan with Notts County and the Iron, could be set for a temporary stint with Championship outfit Rotherham United but it would appear that isn’t a popular consensus among some Forest fans.
Some of those supporters have taken to Twitter to rave about the central midfielder’s performance in this latest pre-season contest…
