Nottingham Forest now want ‘brilliant’ England international today, he could cost £15m

Nottingham Forest are reportedly targeting a Deadline Day move for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The England international has recently lost his place in the Eagles starting XI after a calf injury saw Dean Henderson take over Johnstone between the sticks for Palace.

With the Euros coming up this summer, the 30-year-old shot-stopper will want to retain his spot in the England squad, something Johnstone won’t manage if he remains on the bench for Palace.

Yet according to the Daily Mail, Forest could now make a last-minute move to sign Johnstone, with Palace demanding £15m for the England international.

Lauded by Sam Allardyce as a ‘brilliant’ goalkeeper, Johnstone could be a significant upgrade for Forest in the goalkeeping department, with Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos failing to impress.

Yet given how late it now is in the window, Forest could struggle to reach an agreement with Palace for Johnstone, especially with the asking price as high as £15m.

Deadline Day is always a manic day for Premier League clubs, yet it looks like today could be extra crazy for Forest in their pursuit for a new goalkeeper.

Whilst Matz Sels looks to be the internal favourite, Johnstone would have arguably been the more exciting signing for Forest given his Premier League reputation and England experience.

And Nuno Espirito Santo’s side should have moved for the former West Bromwich Albion star earlier in the window, with Johnstone unlikely to replace Henderson in the Palace starting XI this season.
