Nottingham Forest fans react to Vladimir Stojkovic performance v Brazil

The former Nottingham Forest goalie received little sympathy from his former club’s fans.

The World Cup certainly throws up some interesting match-ups. For instance, last night, as Serbia took on Brazil. The World Cup favourites picked up a 2-0 win against the European side to dump them out of the competition. For Nottingham Forest fans, it was something of a macabre event.

That is because the likes of Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho were all trying to score past Vladimir Stojkovic.

The Serbian goalkeeper was signed by Philippe Montanier in the summer of 2016 as a replacement for Dorus De Vries.

Arriving from Maccabi Haifa with bags of experience in international and European football, Forest fans probably felt they had themselves a winner.

Stojkovic certainly had his moments. On debut he made two fantastic reflex saves against Aston Villa that had Forest fans hoping for the best.

However, things soon turned sour.

Stojkovic showed his true colours before long. Prone to error and poor at dealing with crosses the shot-stopper did not inspire confidence in the Forest faithful. After Mark Warburton took over, Stojkovic was quickly pushed aside.

Last night was a perfect microcosm of Stojkovic. He made some great reaction saves against Brazil. However, he was caught out for Paulinho’s opener and left flapping as Thiago Silva headed home the second. Neither were explicitly his fault, but he certainly did not cover himself in glory.
