Nottingham Forest fans hit out at decision to award late penalty in West Brom draw

An away draw against Championship promotion-chasers West Brom is not a result to be sniffed at for Nottingham Forest but they merited all three points at the Hawthorns last night.

Ryan Yates’ second half goal looked set to secure the victory for Martin O’Neill’s side on a night where they exposed their hosts’ defensive openness.

But with the game at 2-1, Lee Mason gave a controversial penalty for a foul on Dwight Gayle – although the contact looked minimal if there was any at all – and Jay Rodriguez converted it to give Albion a share of the spoils.

Forest supporters were not happy at all – they believe their side were worthy of the win and on the balance of play it’s tough to disagree – and also felt aggrieved about the lack of a spot-kick awarded for a tug on Joe Lolley late on.

Some also remember the goal Kemar Roofe scored at Elland Road to deny Forest another away win and are becoming frustrated with the referees.

We’ve put together some of the reaction as many Forest fans fumed about the decision they felt cost them the game…
