Form of Blackburn Rovers man proving Nottingham Forest right to cash in

Eyebrows were raised among Nottingham Forest supporters when the club opted to sell Ben Brereton during the summer transfer window.

The Reds sent the youngster on loan to Blackburn Rovers, with a deal in place for £7 million to change hands when the transfer is made permanent during January.

Some of the Forest faithful were up in arms at the departure of the 19-year-old who clearly boasts lots of potential.

Forest celebrate Ben Brereton’s penalty to make it 3-1 to Forest during The Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between Nottingham Forest and Arsenal at City Ground on January 7, 2018 in Nottingham, England..

It doesn’t appear, however, that they are being proved right at the moment, given that the Stoke-born striker is toiling somewhat at Ewood Park.

Brereton has come in for criticism from some sections of the Rovers support, after a below-par start to life at the club, where he has failed to earn a single league start yet.

It seems as though Forest boss Aitor Karanka got this one spot on at this stage. Although Brereton boasts lots of potential, he was largely frustrating during his time at the City Ground.

Nine goals in 57 appearances speaks volumes of a man played largely up front, whilst £7 million is a big price to place on ‘potential’.

It may sound harsh, but the academy graduate quite simply fell way down the pecking order, amid a glut of summer signings who are proving to be better than Brereton.

On current form it would appear that the striker is struggling to find his feet at his new club. He is yet to get off the mark in the blue and white and has hardly featured for Rovers.

There is a sense that there is a good player in there somewhere but the Reds didn’t fancy playing a waiting game. £7 million is not to be sniffed at and right now it looks like Forest have played a blinder when it comes to the sale of Brereton.
