'Nottingham Forest are pushing': Romano shares exciting transfer update, potential 'huge coup' for Reds

Nottingham Forest are pushing to sign Atletico Madrid’s Renan Lodi on loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds have been very busy in the summer transfer window, signing 17 players.

Forest boss Steve Cooper has also revealed he wants to make more signings before Thursday’s deadline.

The Reds have been linked with Lodi over the past few days and, initially, it looked as though it was a non-starter.

Three days ago, Romano said on Twitter he had “been told no way for loan deal for Renan Lodi as things stand.”

But now, the transfer insider has provided an exciting update regarding Forest’s pursuit of the Brazilian.

Romano said Forest are “pushing” to sign Lodi, and talks are still ongoing on clubs and player side.

The City Ground outfit has reportedly offered a €5m (£4.3m) loan fee.

A buy option of €30m (£25.5m) “could be included” too, added Romano.

This has come about after Atletico “changed their position on LB”.

Can Nottingham Forest land ‘unexpected hero’?

Lodi began his career at Athletico Paranaense in Brazil before moving to Spain in July 2019.

Atletico reportedly paid £19.5million for his services, as per Transfermarkt.

Lodi has made 118 appearances for Los Colchoneros and helped them win La Liga in 2021.

He also lifted the Copa Sudamericana in 2018.

Last term, Lodi netted the winning goal in their 1-0 Champions League last-16 second leg triumph at Manchester United in March.

His goal meant that they won 2-1 on aggregate, enabling them to reach the quarter-finals.

Marca labelled him an ‘unexpected hero’ after the game.

On Friday, the Daily Mail said it would be a ‘huge coup’ for Forest if they signed Lodi.

After all, Manchester City reportedly wanted to sign him a month ago, but Atletico turned them down.
