'Nothing that's going to stop him': Forest man lauds Arsenal star

Scott McKenna has suggested that Kieran Tierney has the ability to make an impact at any level, and nothing is going to stop the Arsenal left-back – in comments reported by the Sunday Mirror (9/1; page 68).

It may have been almost two-and-a-half years since the Gunners faced Nottingham Forest in any competition – and it is nearly 22 years since they faced off in the top-flight – but Tierney is set to come up against a familiar face at the City Ground.

Forest centre-back McKenna is used to playing alongside Tierney these days, with the pair regular fixtures in the Scotland squad. But they have also faced off seven times in their careers to date.

Those clashes came while Tierney was with Celtic, while McKenna was playing for Aberdeen. And ahead of the FA Cup third round tie, McKenna has suggested that he knew for some time that Tierney was destined for the top.

“I knew how good Kieran was from playing against him when I was at Aberdeen and he was at Celtic,” he told the Sunday Mirror (9/1; page 68).

“But when you see him in the Champions League at the age he was against top-quality sides, you know he can do it at any level – and there’s nothing that’s going to stop him.”

Kieran Tierney on way towards Arsenal captaincy as he continues to step up

It has been a hallmark of Tierney’s game that he never looks to be out of his depth. He took little time to establish himself in Celtic’s first-team. And he never needed additional encouragement to act like a leader at Parkhead.

Injuries meant that he took a little while to find his feet at Arsenal. But when he has played, he has been outstanding. He was certainly a shining light last season. And he looks to be finding his best form again, having spent a bit of time out of the side in this campaign.

He is a player some are talking about as a future Arsenal captain. And clearly, McKenna would not be at all surprised to see his international teammate handed the armband.
