'Nothing short of incredible': Some Arsenal fans wowed by 26-year-old 'unsung hero' v Liverpool

A number of Arsenal fans have praised Calum Chambers following his efforts in Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg draw with Liverpool.

The Gunners put in a superb performance at Anfield to hold the Reds to a 0-0 draw.

This is despite Arsenal having to play with ten men from the 24th minute onwards.

Granit Xhaka clumsily brought Diogo Jota down midway through the first half, which earned him a red card.

Arsenal, however, dug deep and managed to hold firm and keep the tie level on Merseyside.

Xhaka dismissal aside, Mikel Arteta had another problem, one which happened early in the game.

Cedric Soares appeared to injure his hip in the opening seconds of the match.

By the tenth minute, the Portuguese had to come off, and Chambers took his place.

The 26-year-old hasn’t played a competitive Arsenal match since October, against Leeds in the Carabao Cup.

However, he didn’t look rusty at all, putting in a solid display at right-back against the Reds.

“Chambers was so good after coming on that it almost makes you wonder why he wasn’t starting in the first place,” wrote football.london.

“Aerially sound, positionally solid and defensively switched on throughout.”

The Evening Standard, meanwhile, wrote: “Put in a great shift at right-back, battling away really well.”

Plenty of Arsenal fans loved what they saw from Chambers – here’s what some said on Twitter:

Arsenal are next in action on Sunday against Tottenham in the Premier League.

Next Thursday, the Gunners are in Carabao Cup second-leg action against Liverpool at the Emirates.
