‘Nothing’: Richard Keys suggests 29-year-old is fed up of Tottenham and they might sell him for £40m

Richard Keys has discussed the future of Harry Kane at Tottenham as the wait for him to sign a new contract continues.

Keys said on BeIN Sports that Kane’s transfer value is tumbling as a result of that impasse and suggested it might be better if player and club part ways.

It was reported in November that Daniel Levy would not even contemplate selling Kane, who has flirted with Manchester City in the past.

That means he seems more likely to leave for nothing than Spurs offloading him earlier to get a fee in, but Keys had his say.

Keys on Kane

Keys said: “I’m testing Tottenham’s resolve to see whether they want to sell Harry Kane, whose contract once again is running down, his value is also falling.

“You’re never going to get anything like even the £80 million they rejected from Manchester City. You might get £40-50 million.

“Sometimes it is the case that club and player are fed up of each other. Tottenham have won nothing with their talisman. Nothing. So maybe there’s another way for them to go.

“Both Bobby Robson and Ruud Gullit at Newcastle were selling Shearer, but couldn’t get it over the line. At what point do you say you can keep him and still win nothing? We could get £40 – £50 million here.”

It seems Levy has set his stall out over Kane and his notoriously tough negotiating stance may also put clubs off trying to do a deal.

Kane’s chance to join City looks to have gone now they have signed Erling Haaland, who they will be looking to keep leading their line for the next decade.

Keys mentioned Kane in relation to Manchester United but although their progress under Erik ten Hag is going well, they are by no means a guarantee of trophies in the short-term future.
