‘Nothing less than £100m’: Some Arsenal fans react as Leeds linked with their ‘phenomenal’ player

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the report in The Sun claiming Leeds United are eyeing Gunners ace Emiliano Martinez.

The outlet claims that the Elland Road outfit has made a new goalkeeper a priority as they gear up for a return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.

Martinez, who joined Arsenal’s youth academy in 2010 from Argentinian side Independiente and broke into the first team two years later, has made 35 competitive appearances for the Gunners.

The 27-year-old has excelled in the absence of first-choice Bernd Leno, playing 50 minutes off the bench against Brighton and the full 90 minutes in every Arsenal match since.

“The way he trains every day, behaves and has been behaving since he’s been at the club is phenomenal,” Arteta said of the Argentine, as quoted by The Mirror, earlier this month.

However, The Sun speculates that Martinez may not want to return to bench-warming duties once Leno returns to fitness, and could be tempted by first-team football elsewhere.

In addition, with Leeds boasting the legendary Marcelo Bielsa in the Elland Road dugout, it could prove another incentive for his fellow countryman to make the switch.

Nonetheless, plenty of Arsenal fans have claimed on social media that, if Kepa Arrizabalaga cost £72million, then Martinez should go for £100million.
