'Not too far away': Ange Postecoglou hints 24-year-old Celtic player is now very close to coming back from injury

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has hinted to BT Sport that Cameron Carter-Vickers is now very close to coming back from injury.

Carter-Vickers has been a key player for the Hoops ever since joining from Tottenham on an initial season-long loan deal last summer. Postecoglou’s men made the deal permanent in the last window after a standout season in Scotland.

The 24-year-old has now been ruled out of Celtic’s last three games with an injury and missed the defeat to RB Leipzig last night. And Postecoglou has now provided an update on the fitness of Carter-Vickers.

Postecoglou hints Carter-Vickers close to coming back

Speaking to BT Sport after their Champions League defeat last night, the Celtic boss was asked about the latest news on Carter-Vickers’ recovery.

“We’ll see, he will have a session tomorrow away from the main group,” Postecoglou said.

“Hopefully he’s not too far away.”

Celtic will be desperate to get the talented defender back in action as soon as possible. Carter-Vickers has put in some solid displays for the Hoops and helped them to regain the Scottish Championship last season.

While the American defender has been sidelined, Postecoglou’s men have lost two of their three games – conceding six goals.

Celtic put in a spirited display in Germany last night and will be disappointed to have not come away with at least a point.

The Scottish champions fell behind in the first-half after a promising start to the game. But Jota levelled things up straight after half-time.

A mistake from Joe Hart and a wonderfully worked third goal eventually put Leipzig out of reach. But Postecoglou will take the positives from the game, despite the 3-1 loss.

The Australian boss will be hoping to have Carter-Vickers back as soon as possible and it’s encouraging news that he will be back in light training today.
