Gary Lineker has given his view on the decision to award West Ham a penalty against Liverpool last night.
Lineker presented the midweek Match of the Day show and 29 minutes in, was speaking to Micah Richards over replays of the incident during the analysis.
Richards thought the decision was right by VAR but Lineker said he was not so sure, despite conceding the incident could have been deemed a foul.
As it happened, Jarrod Bowen’s penalty was saved by Alisson as Liverpool went on to win 1-0 at Anfield and continue their resurgence.

Lineker’s view on West Ham penalty vs Liverpool
He asked Richards: “Do you think that’s a pen?
“I’m not so sure.
“You could probably say it’s a foul but then Alisson saves it.”
Finding the back of the net would have given the Hammers a real boost going into half-time and they were good value for a point.
This writer finds it hard to agree with Lineker’s point; the former England man even says it was a foul and it was an incredibly clumsy challenge.
It was the right call to award a penalty at a time when referees and VAR are coming under ever-increasing pressure and West Ham fans will be disappointed Bowen did not find the back of the net.
