Tim Sherwood has told the Kelly and Wrighty show that he is worried after what he’s been hearing Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte say publicly.

Spurs have suffered successive Premier League defeats over the past week after losses to Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Conte’s men had got off to a positive start to the season but are going through a difficult period.

The Italian boss has called for time and patience from fans as he aims to build a side capable of challenging for the biggest trophies.

After the Newcastle loss on Sunday, Conte told Football.London: “Yeah, for sure, this type of situation makes me frustrated because I would like to play this type of game, also in the Champions League, with the best team and then to have on the bench three, four or five good substitutions and not to try to invent situations you understand?

“But we knew this, and when I spoke before, I always said look we have just started the process for Tottenham to bring Tottenham into the best position to be more competitive to fight for something important, we have just started.”

The Spurs boss also said that the club needs two to three transfer windows in order to build a squad capable of competing in Europe and the Premier League.

But Conte’s comments have left Sherwood worried due to his contract situation in north London.

Sherwood worried after what he’s heard Conte say

“They need to sort out his contract issues. He’s talking about it’s the project and that we need patience and time and money, all of this is not good noise coming out of there,” Sherwood told the Kelly and Wrighty Show.

“The reason it’s not good noise is that he’s only got a contract until the end of the season.

“If you want to go through with the project you need to extend your contract, then perhaps Kane and Son will commit their futures to the club.

“If I’m the owner at the moment I’m not letting him spend any more money until he commits himself to the club because you could end up buying players for another manager with different ideas.”

It’s easy to forget that Conte has only been in charge at Tottenham for just under a year.

The Italian has completely turned Spurs’ fortunes around from a side who were struggling under Nuno Espirito Santo to one that is now playing Champions League football.

According to the Telegraph, Spurs are set to open contract talks with Conte next month. The outlet notes that the north London club have an option in place to extend his current deal with 12-months.

Conte has been very open about needing patience as he aims to build a Spurs side capable of challenging for the biggest honours. But it will be best for everyone involved if there was some clarity over his future sooner rather than later.
