‘Not been the same’: Gabby Agbonlahor claims £34m Liverpool player has stopped working hard this season

TalkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor claims Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has stopped working hard this season.

Salah has been a revelation since making the £34 million switch from Roma back in 2017 (BBC).

The 30-year-old has picked up three Golden Boot awards in the Premier League and helped Jurgen Klopp’s side win the whole lot.

The Egyptian winger became Liverpool’s highest-ever earner after signing a new deal in August (The Guardian). But Agbonlahor claims he hasn’t been the same player since.

Agbonlahor claims Salah has stopped working hard

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Agbonlahor compared Salah’s dip in form to Pierre-Emerick Aubamyeang’s after he signed a new deal with Arsenal.

He said: “Does he look different after signing his contract? We hammered Aubameyang for his form after he signed a bumper contract at Arsenal. Where’s that energy for Mo Salah?

“He’s not been the same player. The same effort as well has not been there.”

Salah’s form has certainly dipped this season, but he’s still managed to register five goals and four assists in 12 games.

He may be playing below his usual high-standards, but he’s certainly not alone. Klopp’s side have struggled with injuries and confidence so far this season.

There’s no doubt that the Egyptian will be back to his best soon enough, especially after he gets used to playing alongside Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool are going through a transitional period at the moment after losing Sadio Mane over the summer. Klopp seems to be still trying to work out what is his best side, especially in attack.

Salah was hooked for Fabinho during the 3-2 loss to Arsenal on Sunday after a quiet afternoon.

Klopp will be hoping Salah and the rest of his Liverpool side can get back to their best, starting at the Ibrox in the Champions League tonight.
