'Not available': Conte says Tottenham 'superstar' definitely won't play tomorrow
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has reiterated that Cristian Romero won’t play in Spurs’ final Premier League game of the season.
The Tottenham defender picked up a “serious injury” towards the end of the Lilywhites’ 1-1 draw with Liverpool early in May.
Romero missed Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Arsenal on Thursday 12 May and the 1-0 triumph over Burnley last weekend.
Conte said prior to the win over the Clarets that Romero had ‘finished this season’ as he has ‘no time to recover’ for their final games.
On Sunday, Tottenham head to Championship-bound Norwich City looking to seal Champions League qualification.
Spurs are currently fourth in the table and two points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal.
Tottenham’s goal difference is also a lot better than that of their rivals.
This means that, barring an incredible turn of events, a draw should be enough for Spurs to seal fourth place.
However, they’ll have to do so without Romero, one of their best players this season.
“Outside and inside Spurs, there is a real sense that Tottenham have added another superstar to go alongside Harry Kane and Son,” The Athletic recently wrote.
“The same players, not less, not more”
At Conte’s pre-match press conference, football.london asked the Italian whether there was any chance the 24-year-old could be involved.
“No, Romero had a traumatic injury,” he replied. “I said to you that he is not available.
We have the same players as the last game against Burnley. The same players, not less, not more.
“We have to be ready to fight and try to get the result.”
