'Not always the smartest thing': UCL manager reacts to what Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has said about him

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has played down any war of words with Tottenham boss Antonio Conte.

Nagelsmann recent shared his admiration for Spurs talisman Harry Kane, saying Bayern would be interested in buying him but he is too expensive.

“Very expensive, that’s the problem, but a brilliant player,” said Nagelsmann of Kane. “One of the best forwards, perhaps one of two or three centre forwards that who really can play centre forward.

“Last couple of years he didn’t really play centre forward, he dropped a little bit to number 10, he can play number 10 as well.

“Very strong, brilliant with his head, it could be possible that he could score a lot of goals in the Bundesliga. But it will be tough for Bayern Munich, we will see what will happen in the future.”

Nagelsmann says he has a good relationship with Conte

As per the Daily Mail, that caused Conte to bite back, and say: ‘Honestly, I did not hear this. I am a coach that does not speak about other players at other teams.

“[Kane] is a part of the project, an important part of the project. I don’t like to speak about the players of other clubs.

‘If I want to do something, I’ll go and speak with the club and not go through the media. Maybe it is a little disrespectful for the other club.”

But 90Min report comments from Nagelsmann trying to calm the situation down and talking up his relationship with Conte.

“I’ll always give my opinion in the future,” he said. “I don’t write down all my answers before the press conference.

“It’s coming spontaneously, that’s maybe not always the smartest thing. I don’t have a problem with Conte or Laporta responding back, that’s part of the game.

“It wasn’t a dramatic statement, I have a good relationship with Conte.”

This looks like the end of the situation and Bayern would surely not have the funds to buy Kane at this stage, who seems happy and settled at Tottenham now anyway.

This time last year, he was locked in a transfer saga with Manchester City, but Conte has turned the club around and there is a prospect the trophy drought could end this season.
