Norwich City’s table-topping form should have Rangers fans hoping for Graeme Murty stay

Norwich City are surpassing the expectations of many as Daniel Farke’s side top the Championship. The Canaries, along with Leeds United, are starting to move away from the chasing pack in the English second-tier. But the Norfolk side were simply never expected to be sitting this high up the table.

But it should have Rangers fans excited. Because, whilst much of Norwich’s success has been down to good recent recruitment, the youth-team has also played a big role.

In yesterday’s starting line-up against Bolton, Jamal Lewis, Ben Godfrey, Todd Cantwell and Max Aarons all featured. All four of them came through the youth team under Rangers’ current youth boss Graeme Murty.

Steven Gerrard took over from Murty after his ill-fated caretaker spell at Ibrox. However, he clearly does a good job with young players. Just look at Norwich.

Rangers have some talented youngsters of their own. The likes of Andy Dallas, Cammy Palmer, Dapo Medube, Stephen Kelly and Matthew Shiels are all top prospects and Auchenhowie and Gerrard has plenty others on his radar.

If Murty, who appears to be out of the running for the vacant Reading job, can provide the Rangers first-team with a similar calibre of those at Norwich, then the Ibrox faithful may forgive him for some of his trespasses from last season.
