Norwich City star Todd Cantwell has been left stunned on Twitter after listening to ex-Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher claim that Everton should have been awarded a penalty against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
VAR pulled up Cantwell for a handball last month against Manchester United, in a decision that seemed slightly harsh on the Canaries attacking midfielder. United missed the penalty, but the lack of consistency is still alarming.
A very similar scenario occured at Goodison Park on Sunday, as Alli handled the ball from an corner with the score still 1-0 to Spurs. VAR adjudged that because of the close proximity to Yerry Mina, and the pressure from Mina, forced Alli to handle.
But many are shocked that Alli got away with one, especially given that Alli’s hand is above his head – rather than in at his body. Norwich star Cantwell responded to Gallagher’s comments on Sky Sports, with a head-exploding emoji.

TBR’s view – People are beginning to change mind about VAR
Even the staunchest of big-name supporters of VAR in Gary Lineker and Jamie Carragher have changed their mind over the weekend, following the controversy at Goodison Park. The decision not to award Everton a penalty was barbaric.
Spurs and Alli would have had no complaints should a penalty have been awarded for Everton. That was not the only issue on display, with Son Heung-min being shown a red card and Davinson Sanchez perhaps lucky not to be sent off.
