Norwich City star Kenny McLean has told PLZ Soccer that he believes Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson deserves to win the Premier League player of the season award, as The Reds remain just six points away from the title.
With nine Premier League games to play this season, Liverpool remain 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League. Henderson has captained the Liverpool side to that point, showing charisma, passion and quality throughout.
His leadership is undeniable. Even in the midst of a global health crisis, the former Sunderland star has created a Premier League NHS fund – taking action when every other Premier League captain did not, including England skipper Harry Kane.
Scottish star McLean played against Henderson in Norwich’s first game of the season, as a Henderson-inspired Liverpool side eased to a 4-1 win. With the Reds midfielder a favourite for the POTS award, McLean backed him to win it.
“Ther’s so much quality across the league,” McLean said. “The player of the year, this season, has been Jordan Henderson. We played them in the opening game of the season, Liverpool beat us 4-1 at Anfield.
“We had been so used to winning, we had a habit of winning. But at Anfield, that was a proper welcome to the Premier League. Henderson controlled the game, he’s an athlete and he’s got so much more quality than people give him credit for.”
TBR’s view – McLean is right, Henderson deserves POTS award
Not only has he been one of Liverpool’s best ever captains and is set to hold aloft the first top-flight title for Liverpool in 30 years, Henderson, 29, has also shown enormous quality in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.
Whether he has been used as a holding midfielder behind the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, or in front of Fabinho himself, Henderson has been on fire for the Merseyside outfit.
In the form of his life, Henderson deserves the award.
