Norwich City’s interest in Andre Dozzell has wavered after Ipswich Town slapped a £5 million bounty on his head, according to the Norwich Evening News.

The Canaries had been keen to do a deal for the England youth international during the current transfer window.

Dozzell is entering the final year of his contract at Portman Road and Norwich are believed to have backed down after hearing the valuation.

Norwich haven’t made a bid for the player but a conversation has taken place between the two clubs.

The 20-year-old is a product of the youth academy at Ipswich and he has played 32 times for the Tractor Boys.

Dozzell is an attacking midfielder who is also comfortable playing as an out-and-out central midfielder if called upon.

It was a season of stark contrasts for the fierce rivals last season. Norwich won the title, winning promotion to the Premier League, whilst Ipswich finished bottom of the table and were relegated to League One.

TBR Verdict

Last season was bad enough for Ipswich without them selling one of their prized youngsters to Norwich.

The Canaries are right to be unwilling to pay £5 million for his services. Dozzell has bucket loads of potential but hasn’t realised much of it just yet.

He would be unlikely to walk straight into Norwich’s first-team and that should put them off a sizeable bid for the midfielder.

With one of the smallest budgets in the Premier League, Norwich must ensure that any player who does arrive is capable of playing in the first-team on a regular basis.

At this moment in time, there is no saying Dozzell is capable of doing that.
