Northern Ireland supporters discuss Leeds star Stuart Dallas performance

Northern Ireland suffered extra-time heartbreak as Slovakia earned a 2-1 win following the scores deadlocked at 1-1 after 90 minutes – but supporters have praised Leeds star Stuart Dallas, who picked up an injury in the match.

Dallas, 29, clocked up his 50th cap for Northern Ireland on Thursday night as Ian Baraclough’s side played host to Slovakia. It took Northern Ireland until the 88th minute to get their goal.

Juraj Kucka scored after just 17 minutes for Slovakia, but it was a brilliant run from Paddy McNair that saw Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar turn the ball into his own net. That 88th minute goal saw the match go to extra time.

A mistake from Leicester defender Jonny Evans presented the ball to Michal Duris, who lashed home an effort that beat Burnley goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell at the near post – though he could do little about the strike.

Dallas started on the right-hand side of the defence, and the £1.3million Leeds signing (Sky Sports) starred throughout. Proving to be one of the first names on the team sheet, Dallas starred for his country.

The Belfast Telegraph gave Dallas an 8/10 for his performance, with the newspaper describing his performance as “like a braveheart” after he suffered an injury to his arm – but continued to play.

But it was not enough. Northern Ireland crashed out after 120 minutes of football despite a brave display in front of some supporters – and some of those fans praised Dallas on Twitter.
