Northern Ireland squeezed into the Euro 2020 play-off final thanks to a penalty-shootout win over Bosnia & Herzegovina after the two countries played out a 1-1 draw – and Northern Ireland supporters have praised Newcastle star Jamal Lewis.

Ian Baraclough’s men had it all to do on Thursday night as they went away from home to take on a Bosnia side that boasted new Barcelona signing Miralem Pjanic, as well as ex-Manchester City target man Edin Dzeko up front.

But Northern Ireland were unphased. Even after AC Milan midfielder Rade Krunic opened the scoring for Bosnia after 14 minutes, Northern Ireland remained composed and eventually got their equaliser just after the half-time break.

Aberdeen veteran Niall McGinn was clinical after a brilliant flick-on from Josh Magennis, riding a couple of challenges before finishing superbly when through on goal. Paddy McNair had a glorious chance to win it, but failed to score.

Pjanic hit the bar from a free-kick but the match eventually went to penalties after a 1-1 draw. While George Saville missed his spot-kick, Northern Ireland progressed thanks to a brilliant save from Burnley goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Northern Ireland fans discussed Newcastle’s new £13.5million (Goal) signing, who lasted the entire 120 minutes. Many supporters were delighted with his efforts on the left flank, applauding the former Norwich star on Twitter.
