‘Nonsense’… Jeff Stelling left stunned after what he’s heard about Mikel Arteta recently

Jeff Stelling has slammed Rio Ferdinand’s latest claim about Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and Manchester United.

The former United defender surprisingly claimed that the Arsenal boss would ‘100 per cent’ swap the Emirates Stadium for Old Trafford.

“Arteta would leave Arsenal to join Man United, 100 per cent,” Ferdinand said on FIVE.

“No one is saying it’s happening but if Man United in a wild dream said, ‘do you know what, Erik ten Hag, thank you’ or Erik ten Hag has been poached by Bayern Munich, and he goes there, and then Man United say top of the list is Arteta.

“Arteta is going in and saying to the lads, ‘listen guys, it’s been emotional but I’ve got to move, I’ve got to go,” as quoted by The Daily Mail

It’s fair to say that Ferdinand’s comments on the Gunners boss have caused quite the stir and Jeff Stelling has labelled the claim as ‘nonsense’.

Stelling stunned after Ferdinand’s Arteta claim

Speaking on TalkSPORT (27/2 6:46am), Stelling and Ally McCoist discussed Ferdinand’s comments on Arteta.

Stelling said: “Rio was speaking, surprise surprise, on his YouTube channel.”

“We’re not all as daft as we look pal,” he added.

“That’s my mate you’re talking about there’s no way he would do that Jeff,” McCoist joked

“Oh my goodness me, talk about nonsense! We’re gullible but we’re not that gullible,” Stelling added.

We’re unsure what gives Ferdinand the impression that Arteta would even consider a move to Old Trafford right now.

The Spaniard has already shut down rumours linking him with a move to Barcelona this year and is fully committed to seeing out his project at Arsenal.

United and Arsenal have also been fierce rivals over the years and you’d imagine that Arteta is fully aware of the rivalry between the two clubs.

Arteta is on the cusp of delivering major honours at Arsenal and at this point, United are miles behind the north London club.
