Noni Madueke asked if Spurs wanted him this summer
Noni Madueke has confirmed that there was interest in him from Spurs this summer, as he suggested that every young English player wants to be in the Premier League – in comments reported by the Daily Mirror.
Madueke was heavily linked with a potential return to England during the window.
In fact, the Sunday Mirror (22/8; page 74) reported that 10 clubs had been in contact with PSV Eindhoven about a potential move.
Amongst them were Tottenham, Wolves and Leicester. And they were all told by the Eredivisie side that he would cost £40 million.
Ultimately, Madueke signed a new contract in the Netherlands. But he has now confirmed that his old club, as well as Manchester United, came calling.
“Yeah when you are doing well there is always interest. It is best to stay at PSV this summer. It is the right decision,” he said, as reported by the Mirror, when asked if Spurs and United made a move.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world and every young English player wants to be there.
“But also I am not someone who is afraid to venture elsewhere so whatever is best for my development, whichever country, I am a person who won’t be scared to take the leap.”
Madueke emulates Spurs star with interesting comment
Much was made of the social media post from Harry Kane in which he confirmed that he was staying at Spurs this season.
And the two key words in the post were deemed by most to be: ‘this summer’.
For many, that was an indication that his desire to leave has only been put to one side for a few months.
With that in mind, Tottenham fans can now take some encouragement from Madueke’s comments. He has insisted that staying at PSV this summer is the right move.
It would certainly be no surprise to see the forward move next year. He has six goals already this term.
And plenty of Spurs fans will definitely be hoping that they find themselves in the mix when his future does become a talking point once again.
