‘Non-existent’… Pundit says £12m Arsenal player genuinely doesn’t have any pace

Jorginho is a very divisive player at Arsenal.

For some, the Italian is one of the most composed, classy and skilful players in the Gunners’ team, but for others, he’s an over-the-hill, slow and turgid midfield player.

At the weekend against Liverpool, Jorginho was utterly brilliant as he played around the Reds’ with ease and knitted this entire Arsenal performance together.

Speaking on Off The Ball, Keith Treacy has been discussing Jorginho and his performance at the weekend, and he perfectly exemplified how polarising a player the Italian is.

Treacy named Jorginho as his Man of the Match, but, at the same time, he stated that he doesn’t have any pace and he wouldn’t fancy him to play against a team with a more counter-attacking style.

Jorginho has no pace

Treacy shared his verdict on the £12m midfielder.

“On paper, I have to be honest. When I saw Jorginho in there, I wasn’t looking forward to seeing Jorginho in there because his powers of recovery are non-existent, he’s very one-paced at times, but he was Arsenal’s best player, he was outstanding, when Liverpool’s press came in, three or four players at once he just played one-twos, making angles, it looks so simple, but he always got it right,” Treacy said.

“When Jorginho is playing against a mid to low block, a team who will sit and counter you, he’s susceptible to being done there, people will just run past him.”

Use him wisely

Jorginho is a very unique weapon in Arsenal’s armoury, and he’s a player who needs to be used wisely.

In a game against a team like Liverpool, Jorginho can be so useful as Arsenal need someone who will dictate the tempo and calm things down, but, as Treacy says, against a counter-attacking team where Arsenal will expect to dominate in any case, Jorginho can be a bit of a liability in terms of his recovery pace.

Jorginho can be a brilliant asset to Arsenal, but they need to use him wisely and use him sparingly.
