Leeds United are currently top of the Championship after picking up a 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic over the weekend.
Two goals from Patrick Bamford proved enough for the win in a game where Leeds could easily have had more.
One man who was unlucky not to find the back of the net was midfielder Adam Forshaw. He missed a couple of great opportunities for Leeds, including one which led to Bamford scoring the opener.
It did not distract from what was a good game from the midfielder, but former Leeds player turned pundit Noel Whelan believes he has to start taking those chances, as he told BBC West Yorkshire Sport.
“He so deserved a goal from his performance Adam Forshaw. I thought he was excellent today, involved in everything.
“I bet in training he is putting those in the back of the net. He’s got to do it on a game day as well. Because he is a fantastic player, with great technique, but you’ve got to make these chances count. Goal difference could be the difference this season.”
Forshaw has something of a difficult relationship with the Leeds fans. When he was tentatively linked with a move to Fulham over the summer, some fans were pushing the idea of his exit.
However, Marcelo Bielsa is a big believer in his talents and so far this season Forshaw has proved a key player.
But he does need to add more goals to his game. Forshaw has yet to score for Leeds in 46 appearances for the club and adding a more serious goal threat to his game could certainly help him win over the Leeds fans even more.
Equally, he should not go pushing for goals if it means ruining the balance he has found with Mateusz Klich, a far more potent threat going forward.
Hopefully, Forshaw can end his barren goal drought this season. If he puts in more performances like this, it will be the least he deserves.
